I went to a specialist 3years ago and got diagnosed with moderate adhd as an adult around 40yrs old.
He gave me a prescription for an EKG, then a prescription for Adderal that would be mailed, after getting an EKG.
I didn't get the EKG, because I didn't have insurance and who knows why I didn't do it. I guess I couldn't put it into action.
So now I am unemployed and reflecting on how little I have achieved, despite my skills and knowledge. I blew like 300k over the years on starting a business, which I did really great at product development, but never did much with marketing, so no money in the bank. I got the money from doing good in real estate, kind of by chance and parents. But now I'm broke. If I partnered with someone with a little money and who could do marketing, it would work. But, I won't make it happen.
Anyway. I am on unemployment. I have had decent jobs, but quit before fired, because I couldn't juggle multiple accounts and multiple tasks within the accounts.
I took **** jobs, which lead me here. Eligible for Med I Cal.
I'm not a genius, but not stupid. I got mediocre grades, but tested at least 2-6 grade levels above mine on standardized tests. I just absorb information but I can't seem to do much with it to benefit myself.
I don't have a specific question. But more general advice or info from experiences you may have had. I do have issues with doctors, since I have seen in the past how they have failed to help people, which have either led to my Father dying a few months early or my friend not getting treatment, both which are thinks I knew were an issue, but the doctors didn't agree. So my dad died and my friend finally got to a specialist, 3 years later.

So you didn't end up taking Adderall??? Can you see the MD and still get the ekg and then the meds to see how they might help you even out...?....... forget your issues with them...you need some help.

How much have you done to research ADHD? I have ADD and well before I received a formal diagnosis, I was told by a friend whose husband and children have ADHD that she thought I exhibited symptoms. So I started researching it. Just KNOWING how it worked and learning about coping strategies caused a major turnaround in my life. Get a psychologist, get the meds, but also EDUCATE yourself. Books by Amen and Hallowell are excellent resources, but there's a ton out there.
I'm 42, got diagnosed at 30. Over the years I learned to exploit the strengths that come with ADD.
Also, something I found helpful was bullet journaling. Google it. I write EVERYTHING down in a little notebook that goes everywhere with me. It's a method that was started by a guy with ADHD. Appointments, tasks, accomplishments, even little affirmations all go into that little notebook. As I've assumed responsibility for my father who has dementia, it has been invaluable for keeping track of everything.

I have been watching videos by expert to learn about it and that has helped, by just being aware of what I am doing wrong. For example, people with ADHD, are really bad at knowing when to stop a task, because they should be doing something more important. I may spend 2 hours researching something not that important, not even meaning to spend that much time. So I looked at my to do list, and didn't just pick something randomly or by what I could do with the least resistance, but by what was most critical.
I make to do list almost every day. The bullet journalism looks like an improvement on that. I'll probably start doing that.

No, didn't get Addrerall. I have a Dr appt though. But I also just got a new job that starts a couple days before it, so I'll probably scheduled the appt for a couple weeks later, since I don't want to ask for a day off 2 days after I start. I got lucky with the job because the pay is decent and it's not a job that would be bad for ADHD. It's something I'm naturally good at. I am definitely going to take care of it very soon though, like in the next 3 weeks.
