One bedroom apartment, food, utilities, transportation to Mexico City a couple times a month, just living expenses in general in a SAFE, middle class area--can anyone give me a guess as to what the cost per month would be for one person? Could you live there on $1,200 a month? Any information would help.

Default Living in Mexico

I currently live in Cuernavaca, Morelos. $1200 US should be just fine. You can live fairly well on that amount of money. I have a two bedroom apartment (duplex) that I pay 1200 pesos per month. It is in a working class neighborhood that is very safe. The telephone with internet is 599 pesos per month. I find it easier to take the bus or a cab to where I need to go. The traffic is nuts and the traffic laws are just a suggestion. Riding the bus is really easy and really cheap.

Hope some of this helps.

For $1200 a month, you could live quite nicely just about anywhere in Mexico.

Including San Miguel de Allende? I hear it is more expensive there.

Do you like living in Cuernavaca? What is the weather like? Is it a safe city?

Cuernavaca..."the city of eternal spring".

When I lived in Mexico City we had a weekend house on the Libre (free road) just before entering the town. Beautiful weather...I loved it.

1200 Pesos based on todays exchange rate is VERY cheap.

Then again it is possible to find low rates in some neighborhoods regardless of the city.

I'm now in Baja and Telnor is a 429.00 Pesos min with less then 100 message units. Internet fee is 188.70 Pesos (included in the bill) for a comparison look

Overall if it were not for my medical needs...would love to stay in Cuernavaca...close to Acapulco which I visited every three months while in DF.

If a person has the funds they can live there indefinetly without being a legal resident...you could get a 90 or 180 day visa and enjoy the weather. Thats what I did for three yrs.

Best of luck in your search. Steve

wife and I are planning to take a year off and head south (April of next year) -- we've heard a lot about Cuernavaca and would just like to get more details about the day-to-day life there. We would have about $2000 a month available. Wife has been studying Spanish for years and would like to become fluent - the main reason we would be down there. I'm in the graphics business and not sure what I would do, but we would need to be near a "gym" -- we do a lot of exercise.

I lived in Cuernavaca in 04-05 and with a modest lifestyle was able to get by on $300/month. However, housing was paid for.
