My husband just got a job in Doral, FL and we are looking to move in December. We happened to drive down past Brickell, past Coconut Crove and ended up on Egewater in Coral Gables and fell in love with the area. We LOVE Coral Gables but we are trying to find a nice place to rent...about $1700 (even less if possible). We are thinking about Brickell too, but on the fence. We are in our mid-30s, both of us like to exercise and want to be walking distance or cab to a cool restaurant/bar. Being near a beach would be great...but not a requirement.
Should we be looking someplace other than Coral Gables or Brickell? He mentioned Sunny Isles...but I am suburban/urban (If there is such a person)...

Edgewater love that area, not sure what the rents are like these days. The Grove, Coral Gables, Brickell and South Beach are probably the areas you should look at for your first year. They all have restaurants and shops in walking distance.

Rent in Merrick Park, Coral Gables, that is the place for you. It is right by the best health club in town, Equinox. The apts in Merrick park are in your price range, you would love it there. Close to Metro, walking distance to shops...parks. But you may want to look in the Doral area, there are some nice places out there, because the commute can be horrible. I like Coconut Grove myself, and Pinecrest area.
