First I speak Spanish and love diversity. It makes a place more interesting.

Miami Beach used to be so popular with Jews and when I lived there as a youth it seemed mostly Jewish at least in some parts. I would guess at least some go there to retire. I think the current Jewish population is 15,000

My guess is for one the Jewish population was older and they died, with many less new ones replacing them. Other places became attractive and perhaps something about Miami Beach became less attractive. Maybe the younger crowd took over.

I also read on a thread that the gay population has declined. I would guess its a gay-friendly and open-minded place but really dont know.

There lots of Jews and gays here, don't really know what you're talking about. The gay parade is tomorrow btw.

With regard to the Jewish population, there used to be restrictions on where they could live, so that concentrated them in certain areas.

I think many Jews are going to places like Aventura and it's surroundings. I've seen plenty there, and also in hallandale

Also, quite a few of the people you think of as hispanic may also be Jewish.

In 1982, Miami Beach had 65,000 Jewish households or 62% of the population. In 2004, Miami Beach had only 16,500 Jewish households, or 19% of the population. So the Jewish population declined 75% in 22 years. It has continued to decline since.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miami_Beach,_Florida

One reason may be that many Jews of the time were World War 2 refugees that were put up in government subsidized housing and have simply died off since the 80's. The younger generations dispersed to places like Kendall and Boca where they got larger homes and cheaper land. Miami Beach crime skyrocketed in the 70's/80's, so that pushed out many people.

Actually what happened to the Jewish population on South Beach was gentrification when the Art Deco Historic District was established in 1979.
Prior to the designation most of the hotels on South Beach were run down & most of the Jewish population residing there were poor and living on fixed incomes. They were squeezed out when developers from New York & Miami bought these rundown hotels and refurbished them for wealthy tourists from around the world especially Europeans.
By the end of the 1980's these elderly Jews could no longer afford their rents and moved on.
