we just moved from FL to MA
but to honest we really miss the sunshine and the way you can be outside all year. even with the summer heat you can be outside early or late or in the pool.
It's November and it's dark early, cold and raw in MA...and we have months of this ahead until May. We're thinking... did we make a mistake? Should we go back to FL?

We are non-spanish speakers, love the beach, love warm weather and the outdoor lifestyle that is allows. We would be working in Miami-Dade so we would not have a long commute that we have up here now...so more family time.

I know some say it would be crazy to move into Miami -Dade. But Pinecrest and Palmetto seem like good areas. My only question is will my kids feel like they are fish out of water not being spanish speakers? We are very involved in our kids lives...we can raise kids there with good values right? Or are we kidding ourselves? Should we stay put...raise the kids and wait until retirement for FL? Just seems along time to wait.....

So confused on what is the right thing to do for my husband and I AND for our kids and family.

your kids would not feel like fish out of water in Pinecrest or Palmetto Bay....not at all. Places where they speak almost all spanish are places like Sweetwater, Little Havana and Doral. Not Pinecrest and Palmetto Bay. But remember Pinecrest if VERY pricey....Palmetto Bay is better

Both Pinecrest and Palmetto Bay are very nice areas. No need to speak Spanish in either neighborhood.

We are in the exact SAME boat!! We want to move to FL b/c of the nice weather & lifestyle & I'm trying to find a really nice area in Miami Dade too. We are in NJ right now & I'm sick of winter & it hasn't even begun yet!! Good luck with your move

Yes, both good areas without much of a Spanish-language issue.

I lived in Pinecrest, my daughter was going to go to Palmetto High School, it is a very nice school. She went to Gulliver instead, a very good private school in Pinecrest. Your kids will be fine not speaking Spanish in this area.

Sounds like you may need to give it some time up north. Most of the friends that have left Florida have all felt this way the first year after leaving Florida. I would give it time as you said you just moved there, you are probably having lots of emotions right now, if you made the right move, will my children be happy here, etc. I have one friend that moved to Vermont from Florida and loves it up there, he would never move back to Miami. He feels he can be outdoors up in Vermont more than he could ever be outdoors in Miami. He gets out in the winter and takes in all the winter sports they have to offer up there and loves having seasons. I have another friend that moved to PA almost two years ago now, she didn't want to move to leave Florida (she actually hoped her husband didn't get the job offer), they moved to PA. Her four daughters are loving it up there and they have just closed on a house with the thinking they will not be moving back to Florida. FYI, your kids will get a better education up north. So just give it some time... They best thing is to get out an experience the things that are in your city or town up north or near by.

As for Pinecrest and Palmetto Bay they are great areas to live...
