While Europeans buy second homes in the US for the most part only in South Florida, with Miami probably being the most popular destination for Italians, French, Germans, etc (just take a walk down Ocean Dr or Lincoln Road to realize it), most "white Americans" have never even been to Miami, and they usually are likely to think of it as some sort of Cuban crime ridden ghetto. Thoughts?

The US is the most popular country after Spain for European people buying second homes abroad, and the majority of them buy in Florida.

Europeans Set Sights on Florida

"In line with this trend, foreign investment in Florida is flourishing. While 18 percent of real estate agents nationwide reported brokering at least one home sales transaction with international clients in 2006, 65 percent of Floridian real estate agents reported having done so during the same time period, according to the National Association of Realtors (NAR) Profile of International Home Buying Activity.

“Florida is always being spoken of very highly [in Europe]. People love to be here. They come out for vacations two or three times a year,” Laszlo Kovacs, CEO of Florida Investment Marketing Inc., said."

International Buyers Dominate Miami Sales

An estimated 60 percent of home sales in South Florida these days involve a foreign buyer, according to the Miami Association of Realtors.

YAY MIAMI!!!

Yeah, Americans don't know much about Miami and its multiculturalism. Not all Americans are like that though, I don't think the article considers first generation European Americans, Jews and Cuban Americans as real "Americans".

A lot of Americans who haven't spent much time here think it's like the movies/TV. First it was Scarface and Miami Vice, now it's CSI Miami and Burn Notice. The concept that Miami and Miami Beach aren't indeed synonymous is foreign to many people.

As long as they buy (hopefully cash or large down payments), pay property taxes and deal with the good and the bad, stimulate the local economy, I say Good for them.

They say: "A sucker is born every day".... (I'm only kidding).

If it benefits Florida, it's a good thing.

What that may also do, again, is price people out (young professionals) who want a modest life, while enjoying the place.

(There's always TC, NC, GA, VA, AZ and central FL for them )

Oh well. Que sera, sera. Good read!!

Any "White" American that thinks that Miami is a crime-ridden ghetto is probably a monolingual bluecollared yokel. Who needs those people? That kind of people were expelled from Miami generations ago because they were obsolete. They should go to Wacko or Hicksville, they are just like those inland islamic Turks from Capadoccia that are baffled are out their minds when they visit Istambul and watch "sinful" Turkish girls showing their hair, not different at all.

Europeans buy properties in South Florida, but when they find out about hidden costs, taxes, insurance and utilities, they usually sell the property in a few years. A lot of people that used to buy Real Estate in Spain are directing their feet to Bulgaria, Argentina and Brazil, some to Turkey.

Miami has a superb reputation in Europe, but I guess it's more for short stays either when taking cruises around the Caribbean, or as part of a package that includes Mouse City or as shopping sprees. Many people in Europe buy a LOT of stuff at American outlets. Problem in Miami for tourists is transportation, not enough shuttles, for example, access to Sawgrass, etc.

No doubt you are a smart guy and you probably mean well .... but you come across as smug , arrogant and mean spirited on your posts ... just the type of person the Miami bashers single out as typical of Miami ... all this and you supposedly live in Spain ?

Do Miami a favor and tone down your posts .

You post an article written by FLORIDAFORSALE.COM and you think it is real and trustworthy??

LOL

Pal, the most popular destination for Spanish, Portuguese, and Italians is not Miami but South America. Uruguay (Punta del Este), Brazil, and Argentina.

Miami is a nice destination but not the most popular due to its high cost of living compared to other cities that offer more for your money. Also, Euros are used to walkable cities. If a minority of them purchase a house here, they'll be selling it after a few months when they realize that they need a car in order to go to DonPan. Euros like Cafes, avenues, etc. I just cant imagine a mediterranean family driving a Hummer.
