Hi all,

I'll be relocating to Miami from the NE in August. Living in NJ, I am used to HIGH density. was wondering if you could tell me which areas in Miami would be my best bet for combing high density and cheapness.

I am looking for an area where houses are close together, walking is an option, and apartment buildings/ grocery stores are common.

I know this is not traditional Miami. But out of all areas which most closely fit this description and are similar to NYC/LA in its closeness and density.

Thanks!

What do you consider cheap? Brickell, Downtown Miami, South Beach are areas with things you are looking for.

Little Havana

You have Maximo Park here along with some shops and there are a lot of mid-rise, low-rise condos within walking distance.

Thanks for the responses. I am looking for a neighborhood that is closest to NYC in that everything is very close together and most people live in apartments not houses. Are there any areas of Miami that fit this description or is everything much more spaced out than in Brooklyn, Bronx, etc.?

You'll find this more in Miami Beach, Brickell etc. Though it's going to be newer construction.

palancer first of all what you want isn't "cheap"! If you are talking $500 a month for rent I could locate a mobile home for you somewhere in central Florida where your neighbor is named "bubba"!
To be serious South Beach/ Miami Beach would be what you are looking for since you can live without a car there.
And yes I'm from Jersey too so I do know what you are asking for.

Definitely Miami Beach. You can get a basic studio apartment there for around $800 and a nicer place for $1k. Downtown Miami/Brickell if you work there or you're into luxury high rises (and don't mind a roommate). Otherwise, it's going to be hard to get away from strip malls and houses scattered with apartments. In Miami, many people live in suburban apartments since they can't afford houses but still need to drive everywhere, and honestly it's pretty hard to get away from that. The dense parts of Miami struggle to reach even the level of Queens, let alone Brooklyn, it really is a totally different place!
