Hello Everyone

The hubs and i are looking at leaving the bright lights of vegas behind for Miami. From the research i have done so far, it seems the cost of living is very comparable, if not less than vegas. In my searches, i have seen the Brickell area pop up an awful lot when looking at places that are similar to our way of life here (and of course including the things we are missing such as outdoor activities, the beach LOL). We are in our 40s, outgoing, love the European style of life where we hi the grocery story a few times a week, like to walk to cafes and stores, etc. We currently live in a 3br/3ba highrise at $2200 per month (2400 sq ft). I *know* i will not get that in Miami (i.e. view of a valley of dirt is much cheaper than the ocean LOL). BUT what we are looking for is urban nice safe (walk at night/daytime without my mace) ocean view (or water view), cafe's, pubs, dining, parks, etc., lowering down to maybe 2 bedrooms (we have no children, so schools/etc not an issue), possible walking distance to beach and around $3k or less a month. Any information on the various neighborhoods that could afford some of these items (or all ) would be greatly appreciated! This is something i am eager to do as the air quality in LV has gotten past the point i can tolerate it - and i am originally from Southern New Jersey, so I understand humidity, bugs and hurricanes I actually long for a nice rainy day - 120 degrees with 40 mph winds blowing dry dust and smog is like living in hell anymore I cant even remember the last time we had rain this year (2011) that lasted more than a few minutes (maybe December of last year?).

Thank you to everyone for any assistance in navigating this! We are still not sure where we would both work, so curious as to the public transpo i have seen discussed for Brickell area, and if this is available anywhere else?

Thanks again and sorry for the long post!

Brickell is a good spot for you. You won't be able to walk to the beach, but you're find the quality of life you're after. Supermarkets, dining, shopping and other services are all outside your door. Additionally there is a train which can easily bring you to big box retail like Target, Best Buy, Macy's, etc. as well as two malls.

At the $2200-$3000 price range, you're looking at a 2/2, maybe a 3/2 in an older building.

Overall I think you'll have a very good quality of life and enjoy the area very much

Thank you! I believe that walking to the beach is one of those "wish list items" compared to the day to day stuff - considering it takes me 5 hours right now to drive to a beach (LA), i can live with a short drive

from Brickell the beach is about a 15-20 minute drive depending if it's Key Biscayne or South Beach.
