Myself and a friend have both taken career breaks and we plan to start our trip in Miami. We arrive in Miami on the 20th of May. We hope to stay till the middle of August before we move on. We are both in our late 20's. Because of our budget, we hope to sublet a studio. We want to live in a safe area that is close to amenities and to a beach. Any suggestions on where we should live would be appreciated!! We have heard that Miami is very expensive is this true?? We hope to work while we are stayin there. Is it hard to find work? Ideally we would hope to have accomdation and work sorted before we arrive so any suggestions would be welcomed

Well it would help if you could tell us your budget for a studio? What is expensive to you?Since that is a relative question depending on where you are coming from. Also you make no mention of what type of work you are interested in or anything about what type of work you currently do.
We need details to answer your questions.

Our budget for a studio would be $1000 to $1400 a month. If we could find a one bedroom apartment for our budget that would be a bonus. As were not going to be there longterm we would be looking for jobs in Bars/Restaurants

I suggest South Beach then for bars/restaurants and you should be able to find a studio or maybe a 1 bedroom apt. for that price in that area. Good luck!

You may be able to get a small studio or a small 1 br in south beach, or a somewhat better accomodation in mid- or north-beach.

You should be able to find a pretty decent place in Miami Beach for that price. You want to be south of 25th street.

You can also find a small studio or small one bedroom for that price in downtown, downtown will give you better mass transit options for the rest of the city but you would need to take a bus to Miami Beach.

I'm assuming you are from the U.S. ?

Your budget is not too bad $1400 is very doable for a one bedroom. Just nothing fancy. $1000 can get you a very small studio in better areas.

I'd second that, well said. Also look in Midtown (near NE 2nd Ave or east of it for safety and general pleasantness) and Downtown (on Miami Ave or east of it for the same reasons). Additionally consider Surfside, which is just to the north of Miami Beach.
