With final exams closing access to the UM and Fiu law libraries, and downtown only being open limited hours, does anyone know of any other law libraries in the Miami area? Really all I need is access to Westlaw Southern Reporter, and it gets frustrating to not be able to see case summaries when reading a response. I am not willing to shell out the $$$ for Lexis or Westlaw online but just need the good old volumes. Alternatively would love to get the collection of a retired lawyer to have a home law library.

Are you referring to hard copies of WSR? Maybe you can use online databases to get the info you need? Whatever school you're enrolled at may have WSR or something equivalent where you can get the info you need 24/7 from home. Barry University has a law school and they offer Westlaw Campus, not WSR, as a database. If you attend a Seflin-participating school (FIU is, UM is not), you can access Barry's databases. Just go to the circulation desk at your own Seflin-participating school and ask about a Seflin card. Then call or go to Barry U library and ask them how to access Westlaw. I think you may have to go there in person to use the database, since you'd have to prove you have a Seflin card. Good luck.

The problem is that I am not a law student. I am just dealing with personal cases, a lawsuit, helping my parents defend themselves from Team Metro, and my property tax/title issue. Getting to case histories is a significant obstacle I am tired of dealing with.

Oooh, I see. Yeah then if you're not a student enrolled somewhere, or a faculty member, you won't have access to these databases, sorry. I tried checking the dade public library and Florida databases, but they don't offer Westlaw. Those law databases are really expensive and specialized. The only way around this is if you know someone who is enrolled in a law school and they let you use their account; otherwise, you're out of luck there. Sorry.

Correction - Actually you don't have to be a law student at a college/university to access the law databases. You can be enrolled in any program - could be majoring in polisci or underwater basket weaving for that matter - to use them. So if you know anyone who's a college student at one of these schools, maybe they'd be willing to help you out.

I am still trying to get the info. For the future I am going to try and collect some volumes myself. The one used book place sells some legal books, so maybe I can dig through there. All books 5.00 or less, seems like a way to go!
