We use to shrimp back in the day behind the Miami herald building, for now we still do shrimp but from our boat when the cold fronts come in. I don't know what you mean by turnpike bridge, where is that?

It was so many years ago, it was some sort of expressway that went over a leg of water. People used very long "jamos" and lights, since it was during the night. There were also boats. We caught a lot of "camarones".

Those were the years of the CB Craze.

The word shrimp is singular and plural.

You are probably remembering the old crandon bridge before they built the taller one, I still think some folks to do like you have described. I have fond memories of the long poles nets, my Coleman latern with a "hat" and my 5 gallon bucket.

Some nights on cold front you would see the water just turn pink because of the amounts of shrimp in the water but lately the same thing that is happening with lack of fish has happened to the shrimp population so we haven't bothered to venture out this year at all.

From what I remember folks also went shrimping off of Card sound road and off of key largo. The boats where all along the bay and when government cut was opened.

Go during the week. Much nicer! Great time of year to tour the lighthouse and the keeper's house since the weather is gorgeous! The views are stunning.
