I may be moving to Miami fairly quickly. I would love to be as near to the beach as possible... in a safe and fun area for a 20-something. I've noticed that rentals in many places in Brickell, Miami Beach and Coral Gables are around $2k on the low end. How quickly can I find something decent for $1500 or less... ideally closer to $1300 or $1200. My job would be north of MIA... I realize on a budget finding a place w/ amenities may be next to impossible, but so long as it's decent and safe I don't need all the amenities. Any suggestions?

^I would definitely recommend North Shore or Normandy Isle...they are actually ON the beach, and you can find 1 bedrooms in that budget if you don't mind older buildings.

An older building in South Beach would be doable, probably without parking, though (and public transportation north of the airport is not very good). North Beach, North Shore, and the eastern end of Normandy would be nice. If you want to walk to stuff, try to stay below 71st. The lower floors in the Loft or Loft 2 downtown may also be a possibility (parking in the City garage is included). Coconut Grove could also be interesting. I'd go ahead and use a realtor for your price range--the owner pays the commission.

So how did the move go? Where did you end up? I'm in the same situation as you were when you posted this.

I've just searched for apartment at Miami Beach on Trulia and set my budget to $1300. There are currently around 130 apartments on Miami Beach available which are <$1300.
