New study recently announced ranks Miami #1 in the US for walkability and bikeability with close proximity to essential services within a 15 minute radius. San Francisco came in #2, followed by Pittsburgh, Boston and D.C.

“A 15 minute city aims to provide you with everything you need within a short 15 minute walk or bike: jobs, schools, food parks, community, child care center density, medical and more.”

Ok, I could see this being the case for Brickell and SoBe, but the rest of Miami?? Walk and bike data was provided by WalkScore.com, which has been the subject of debate on other CD forums.

Kind of a useless metric. Most of the other cities on that list have better public transit than Miami, meaning people can get around without owning a car. The areas of Miami you can live in without owning a car are pretty limited.

Lol, a city that lacks great transit, doesn't have the widest sidewalks and no protected bike lanes (and ones that just end up in the middle of the street) is the #1 "15 minute city" in the U.S? If that's the case, the country is screwed big time. The main city also lacks green spaces and place making is horrendous. It's clear for this "study" they probably just looked at Brickell and said "sufficient enough" lol.

The "15 minute" ranking only includes the small areas that America cares about, LOL.

Yes, the study pertained specifically to the City of Miami, not metro Miami.

Then if that’s the case, Brickell, Gables/Miracle Mile, Coconut Grove and Midtown/Wynwood (possibly heart of Little Havana) all meet the criteria established in that article. The issue would be interconnectivity between some of the neighborhoods but not within the neighborhoods themselves….yes/no?

Technically Gables wouldn't qualify being that it is its own city.

Lacks Great Transit . . Not really, maybe 20 yrs ago . . . or even more.

The Best Public Transportation System ~~~in Florida is in Miami-Dade County~~~...No Doubt

You climb in a Bus in Florida City or Homestead and can make it all the Way to MIA Via The Metrorail at Dadeland South and Fly to the Moon from there, all in Miami Dade Public Trasportation, without having to drive and PARK your vehicle where the daily rate is over $30.00 per day. We are the World, we're Madrid and so many other Cities in the World with the airport at our disposal, even if far way from home but always as close as a Bus Stop . . . Forget UBER and the others that charge like the World is about to end tonite..

You can do the same from any Bus Stop in the County, or make it to Downtown and from there go to Miami Bch.. GREAT ways to move around without the hastles of driving.

U out of towners from Up North, can LAUGH all you want, but In The Sunshine Land not one Area comes up to our Standards . . . . . I know 'cause I use it and I am familiar with the Tampa, Orlando and West Palm Beach Systems, I know not a thing from Jacksonville, but I hear their PT sucks too (Like MOST everything there) .
