Not sure if this has been posted:

There's Trouble--Lots Of It--in Paradise - TIME

It's a recent article in Time. Just wanted to give a reality check to those thinking of moving to "paradise." Couldn't have said it better myself!

(although I do miss the cafe con leche!!!!)

This might be necessary if 95% of the threads weren't on this topic

True---but this time it's not just a bunch of biased people posting their opinion.

Eh, I thought it was interesting anyway

Says who? Even worse- it's only one. Not sure if we can take it seriously though, they didn't mention the rude people and crime is supposed to be highest ever. It was supposed to be paradise and problem-free here in 1985 due to less Hispanic "invasion" (lol).

I don't think anyone here can deny the economic and political issues in South Florida that the article (and countless other posts) highlight.

I found this quote from the article interesting

Quote:
Census Bureau data show that in each year since 2000, on average over 20,000 more residents have left Miami (which includes the city of Miami and Miami-Dade County, pop. 2.4 million) than have moved there from other parts of the U.S.
I guess so much for the more people pour into miami each year than leave theory. Couple that with a article some months ago about immigrants starting to leave, these next few years might be ugly

I'll be darned. It sure is!

I guess that means that 2 years worth of bitter posts on the Miami forum have just been completely vindicated.

Miami has been in trouble since the 80's. Let's hope a hard real estate crash comes to save the city.

I will very seriously consider moving my family and business to Miami in the event that this happens (and once all the other malcontents come up my way to North Carolina and ruin things here). The real estate and associated costs (lack of value for money) is really the only thing that's keeping me from moving there.

I like the people, the Spanish, the beach, and the weather. The traffic doesn't bother me (I work from home). I also like the fact that Miami ranks almost dead last in the nanny state category that someone else posted a link to recently.

Yea that is a couple years old, although I heard about it on the radio a couple weeks ago. Overall this was a crappy article; of course they would interview the white middle class woman wanting to flee the 'invasion'. I think most people have too much common sense, or they have too much self respect to live in a Latin dominated city where once you live in Miami, hearing English spoken during the day becomes a wonderful treat.

I am too selfish to leave this banana republic, I love it. However, I would leave if it meant losing family or a significant other if I did not leave.
