I am in my 40's never been in trouble ever until now, and oh how I wish I could take it all back. You know everyone teaches their children never to steal, well I am not trying to make excuse for what I did I am jobless for the first time in many years and very hard to deal with it. Anyways I now have retail fraud on my record,I know I have screwed myself very badly. So if anyone could help me out as in where I could go to get a job I would so very grateful. PLEASE HELP

Guess it really depends on what you are looking for or have a skill / experience in doing.
Most jobs that require you to work with kids, valuable and such will ask for a background check.

I suggest you do some volunteer work in your community. It will show a prospective employer that you have a good side as well. It will also help you to repay your community, will keep you active, and may provide you with some job leads.

Work for yourself, don't rely on other people to dictate your worth. Everyone makes mistakes, forgive yourself.

It's really impossible to pre-determine whether or not a company will give you a background check or not. I've even had background checks for low paying internships. You might just need to apply to whatever jobs match your skillset and take it from there. In my applications they always sat a criminal record does not necessarily hinder you from obtaining a position, but even that wording sounds like it most likely would.

You could also ask this question on the work and employment board.
