I moved out from the apartment last month, my deposit is $250.
Before we left we clean the place real good. We're 3 female adult & our old mom.
The apartment kept the deposit, and sent us the bill of $580, for cleaning 150, painting 150, and other damage..
I couldn't believe this, the place was clean. We never even make a mess, or broke anything, except one plastic door nob. The apartment don't do a walkthrough with us at all. Just send me bill after we move out. And when I requested for proof, she sent me pictures of another place that we don't even recognize, yet couple pictures was taking in different places, I believe. one picture show clean stove, and another show dirty stove. Our kitchen wall is white, and in the picture is yellow and half white. She just fake the picture. And I caught it. I emailed her back. She claim that she did walk personally through and it was my apartment. There's no way I left that dirt on the stove. We are Asian, my mom really strict with mess. I haven't take any picture when we left. I don't know much about the law. The landlord emailed me that the balance is on my account. I don't wanna have bad credit record because if this. I don't know what to do, we're new in michigan. I don't know anybody who can help. I really want fill a Small claim as I have read in some related topic, but I'm not sure about the process, what kind of case or how to fill it? Please please advise!!! Thank you so much.

Go back to the housing council or housing authority of the community or county where the apartment is. Explain the situation to them and ask them to help you deal with the landlord.

It's always important to do a walk through and take pictures before you move in and when you leave.

This sounds like a specific predatory apartment community in Kent County, from the amount of the deposit to the bogus charges. It's owned by AIMCO and it has gained a reputation for being downright malicious. It's one of the biggest in the country, but because of it's size it's hemorrhaging money and they have gone to the most awful means of squeezing every dime they can. It's only a matter of time before they get sold or brought to some kind of lawsuit. I dont know if that's the specific place being talked about here however.
