I am looking for a place that is walkable, I was in TC ages ago it looked like if I got a home close to town there would be access to pubs and cafes. I am familiar with MI winters and work outside of the country, so that is not an issue.

I am wondering however about how late things are open at night and in the winter when the fudgies go south. Also how accessible are places to shoot, hike, snow shoe and xcountry ski?
what about crime? any issues with downstaters?

I used to live around Dearborn heights so I am also familiar with the random hostility of that area, does it come up north often?

how bad are taxes?

We pay 10 percent sales tax in WA and are about to get hit with a score of taxes from the milage we drive to the beer we consume

TC is very walkable or bikeable, the TART trail runs through town. Housing in town is expensive. Ton's of public land close by for shooting, hiking, etc.

Crime is pretty minimal, the main crime that comes from down south are the occasional drug dealer that comes up here from the D and gets busted.

Taxes depend on which township or county you are located in, some are higher than others.

Traverse is much less seasonal then some of the other town in Northern Michigan. Restaurants and bars stay pretty busy year round, particularly on weekends.
