So for a few years now I have tossed around the idea of enlisting.
Last time I was so close but decided to pursue other opportunities.
3 months ago I was in a really bad car accident and fractured my back.
I have some metal in my back, as well as a few fused vertebra.
I was in the accident on a saturday and was up and walking that next monday.
I went back to work after only 6 weeks and just recently got out of the brace they had me in.
I currently am cleared to do everything but lift 30lbs.
I have been running with no issues, I can bend as much as I did before, I am even going to get a gym membership this week. Hell, I even just got down on the ground and did a few push ups today.
I definitely don't plan on being stupid and trying to enlist right now but at the one year mark the surgeon said life as normal.
I am going to take the next 8 months before that one year mark and get into peak condition and hopefully be able to get a waiver signed saying that it won't limit me. It hasn't been limiting me.
I really want to enlist in the army, just reserves then possibly active duty.
I know this won't hold me back. How do I go about proving it to the army?
It's only been 3 months and I'm already really physically active.
What's waiverable now might not be next week. Check with a recruiter at that time to get the latest and most accurate information as MILPER messages are frequent.
A spinal fusion is an automatic DQ, and I don't expect that to change. If you can heal to 100%, all you can do is ask for a waiver. If you can get a waiver, it has been difficult to impossible to go from the reserves to active duty for a long time so, if you want to go active, go active.

I'm doing so well.
Why is it so hard to go from reserves to active?

Spoke with a recruiter.
Got what I believe is good news.
He says there is hope.
