My family and I will be going out of town for a week next month, and we're trying to decide on the best strategy for getting to and from the airport. In the past, we've lived right on the light rail so it was no problem, but we recently moved to South Mpls, from where the airport is served surprisingly poorly by public transit (which is kind of ironic since sometimes I feel like I could almost reach up and touch the airplanes above my house!).

Anyway, now that we have a small baby, multiple transfers on what amounts to an hour-long transit experience seems like more trouble than it's worth, so I've been looking into parking at the lots near the airport. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find one with even halfway decent reviews. And since we'll be gone for a week, I'm a bit antsy about leaving my car in a lot, anyway, for security reasons if not the expense (but that, too).

Does anyone here have experience taking a taxi to and from the airport? Any specific service you'd recommend? I feel like this might end up being a cheaper option, but there seem to be a number to choose from.

Take an Uber or Lyft. And if you link your Lyft account to your Delta Skymiles account, you rack up frequent flyer miles for using Lyft. Either way, these services are great and hassle free, I've done in twice in the last two weeks actually.

I'd say it was roughly $1/mile?? Just a rough guess, but once again, hassle free. Do note that MSP makes you go to a special area TO GET PICKED UP by either of these providers, however they do have more than adequate signage directing you where to go (called "app-based ride services" or something to that effect).

And if for some reason you've been living under a rock and haven't used these services and are nervous that they are too "new age" or "techie", let you assure you, its super easy and the word "taxi" will disappear from your future vocabulary.

^This 100 times over. I will never again ride in a taxi where I have the option of using Uber. It's faster, cleaner, better cars and drivers, and generally cheaper, too.

My latest Uber driver gave me a site someone designed for requesting Uber drivers ahead of time if you live in an area where if you tried requesting one at 4 am in Woodbury to get to airport, good luck! The driver knows what time you want to be picked up and drives to your house. Then you log on and request and they'll get it. It was a serious question I almost had to deal with for getting to airport for a 5:30 am flight and needing a full size car or SUV as my snowboard bag won't find a smaller car.

Park n fly is great. I think it's $10-15 a day. Given you live so close to the airport taking a taxi and maybe uber or lyft if they can accommodate a baby's car seat would be most practical.

Is there a way to find out ahead of time if I'd be able to use the car seat? Anybody ever hear of service refusals for that reason?

I'll try and find the card to get a better picture of it. Best to email or call Joseph to get info about it.
