Looks like the criteria are pretty rock solid too:

"Here’s what the criteria were:
  • Veterans per capita
  • Veterans funding
  • National historic landmarks per capita
  • Percent of residents who voted in the 2012 presidential election
  • Number of residents who Google for American flags to buy
  • Number of residents who list America as an interest on Facebook"

I've often wishfully looked at the Deep South and thought to myself, "if only we had their kind of patriotism" oh wait, no...I've never thought that, never mind

Every time I look at national rankings I always say to myself "Gee, I wish we were more like the Deep South!"...oh wait, no...I've never thought that! Ghengis it's contagious!

I'm from South Carolina and it is not a place to emulate in any fashion. For instance sure they are number one on this map for "patriotism" but it's also tops in the nation for gun violence, domestic violence, regular violence, illiteracy, unemployment, low wages, poverty, low household income, low percaptia income, education attainability, morbidity & mortality rates ( most of which is preventable disease), home ownership, I could go on... But hey at least really hot in the summer, and it's patriotic. So for what it's worth I guess?

Any "study" that uses Facebook to prove their case certainly gets my vote .

Also, the number of veterans in a given state would seem to have more to do with other factors, such as whether the state is a traditional destination for retirees (i.e. "warm weather" states).

Maybe we could send a team of observers down South in the hope that maybe, someday, Minnesota could be every bit the shining jewel that is Alabama?

Other than the concentration of red for the south Atlantic states, this map doesn't make much sense. And even at that, those are the states most likely to cling to displays of the Confederate flag. So I'm calling BS on this summary.

Anyway, if you want Minnesota to dominate a survey map try a Lutefisk popularity poll.
