Mississippi Most Religious State, Vermont Least Religious

Quote:
PRINCETON, NJ -- Religiousness across the U.S. in 2013 remained similar to previous years. With 61% of its residents classified as very religious, Mississippi held on to its position as the most religious state, while Vermont, with 22% very religious residents, remained the least religious. The most religious states were in the South, except for Utah, while the least religious states were clustered in New England and the West.
Heart of the bible belt ya'll!

People live different lifestyles here in this state. You have a mixture of middle class and poverty areas. Actually, every state have a fair share of that.

Yep, and we are #1 in teen pregnancy rates, and #49 in education.

There's not much emphasis on Safe Sex or Abstinence. Parents seem to be forgetting how important it is to teach their children about these topics. I don't know if it's because parents find the topics embarrassing, or if they don't want to make an uncomfortable situation for their daughter/son. I would rather for my wife to tell our young daughter when she old enough about safe sex than end up being a teen parent. However it seems this is a regular occurance, not just in the South, but all over the world.

Mississippi does not have the highest rate of poverty when adjusted for factors including cost of living, home prices, etc...

Under the supplemental poverty rate that census created to balance out their traditional one Mississippi does not have the highest poverty rate. California does. See the link below:

Teen pregnancy is cultural. Sex is not a topic people in the Bible Belt like to discuss. As fas as education you also have to keep in mind Mississippi has the largest Black population of any state and Blacks statistically perform worst in schools. This plays a large part. I am Black and just keeping it real.

As far as Mississippi being the most religious state I think it is a good think. There are plenty of liberal states for people. But some people are not liberal and are more traditional and conservative and they should have a state they can live in as well.

According to this calculation the state's poverty rate is exactly the same as the national average, and it has always been obvious that any ranking that did not take into account regional variations in cost of living could not be valid.

If that's the case then how did Bloomberg win in New York?
