Hi,

I currently live in the Western US, and have an opportunity to move to MS, I will be based out of the Raymond/Jackson Area, but will be travelling extensively. What communities are good (I am married with 2 kids)? Anyone else from out west live in the area, if so what are your opinions? I have lived in Texas for 5 years, if that helps for comparison.

Thanks
John

Where in the west are you? I'm in Montana, moved here after 50 years growing up/living in Mississippi. The people here are like southerners in a lot of ways. They are friendly, very helpful, caring, and don't put on airs. We fit right in when we moved here.
The down side to moving to Ms. is the humidity, bugs, and heat! Oh, and lots more rain. There's more traffic too.

If you're going to be traveling and have 2 kids and you don't HAVE to be on the south side of Jackson at Raymond, as far as the kids go I would say Madison. Great community they've worked so hard to build up, and the schools are good. My folks are in Madison - I grew up in north Jackson and graduated Callaway High in '74 - and schools were lousy then. I can't imagine they've gotten just a whole lot better. Madison is clean and well kept and just really a lovely area. I think you'd be pleased.

Clinton might be a good area for you if you want to live closer to Raymond. Madison is pretty far away. Schools and the athletic programs for kids in Clinton are good too.

Thanks guys and gals for all your help and replies. I am in Colorado, and while it is a beautiful state, it is full of yuppies, do-gooders and very subtle snobbery, you are looked down upon if you shop at Walmart, don't shop at WHole Foods, if you don't drive a subaru, and all that. We might have a MS option open up in the near future, and in all honesty, MS reputation is not that good, so we wanted to research it some....Anyway, what can you tell me about CLinton, no offense to those Madison folks but it sounds like where we are now.

John,

I have lived in the Jackson area all of my life. I moved to Clinton 30 years ago and I am still here. Presently, we are attempting to sell our home and move out of state to be closer to family as we are nearing retirement age. Taking all considerations you have mentioned, I too, believe Clinton would be a much better choice should you decide to relocate to Mississippi. Check out the sites below for further information.

Check out the College Hills area in Clinton. It's in the city, but like living in the country. It's off Springridge Rd. which is a straight shot to Hwy 18 which takes you to Raymond.

Just to beg to differ with your opinion of Madison. We don't have a Whole Foods here in Madison. We are very family friendly and overall a great place to live. I don't have a subaru either. And unlike Clinton or Brandon, Madison is home to more relocated families. It was very easy for our family to become involved in the community when we moved here seven years ago. We are currently relocating to Texas and have had a hard time finding "Madison" for our new home there.
Clinton is a great place. It has wonderful soccer and baseball fields. But, it also has deep roots of existing families. This makes it difficult to fit in sometimes.
If you decide to relocate I would recommend checking them both out. I worked at CMMC and it was not too much of a drive from Madison.
