I bought Mario Sperry's Vale Tudo guard tape. This tape came out in the late 90's I think. Because of the possibility of taking too many strikes Sperry advised people not to do much from their guards. Instead he recommended you either keep your opponent close for resting or just simply let them go. Anyway it surprised me that Sperry warned against trying submissions from your guard back then.

I found the video:
mario is a good friend of ours.
he spent the weekend at our house back at the end of september.
hes a legit bad ass. hes also very "old school carlson gracie" which was THE team for decades. the carlson gracie style is very control, top heavy and "rough your opponent up" style.
he said "”If you can not win, make the enemy pay a steep price for victory"
so yeah marios style and philosophy follows that line. no guard work unless its close for rest.
