I just heard this. Bass would move to Mobile once completing the transition. This concept is proven in Memphis and would immediately bring tourist, shoppers and sight seeking families to Mobile.

I'll take this with a pyramid of salt. I can't see Spanish Fort passively allowing this 'transition' to happen.

I would be fine with this as long as a Fine Arts/Performing Arts Center is built somewhere downtown after the Civic Center buildings are torn down.

When someone starts a statement with; "I just heard...", you know that you are reading 'hear say'.

Let's try to keep this as real as possible. And if one believes what they are posting, at least give some background on where this comment originated.

I personally don't see BP taking the loss on the Spanish Fort store, especially since we should know that they almost assuredly got long term tax breaks for building the store.

As to the Memphis store, it replaced a very dated store that was stuffed into an old Kmart. And of course they gave them every possible thing they could to take the white eleph........pyramid off their hands.

Mobile can do better with this area of DT by avoiding commercial 'me tooism'. Something more substantial is worth waiting for.

I think Spanish Fort had approximately $80 million tied up in the development of that Bass Pro Shop/Town Center project.
