Since the Mobile River Bridge and Bayway is no longer dead and is basically a certainty at this point (how ever we decide to fund it). This will be a multi-year development and be a topic of Mobile Politics for a while. I think this deserves it's own thread for the previous reasons as well as how massive this project will be.

The toll for cars is currently set to be $2 to take the toll route (trucks will have to pay $15) for phase 1 of the project.

Personally I okay with this one, all the current routes will remain toll free and if you wish to bypass the tunnel traffic, you have an option to bypass it for $2

I would gladly take toll roads around here, and I think most would since ALDOT doesn't have any plans to handle traffic flow.

So, if the Mobile River Bridge project can get the half funding that is possible in the infrastructure bill, which would be 1.1 billion, that would bring the total funding of the bridge to $1.475 billion (best case scenario) of the $2.2 billion required

So looks like Mobile and Eastern Shore MPO are wanting to go all in, no multi-phase project, all or nothing. It looks like there's no other choice but to have tolls. However they have placed in caveats
1) there must be a toll free route through the Wallace Tunnel (presumably to the Causeway)
2) toll no higher than $2.50
3) Publicly owned project, no domestic or foreign corporation

Mobile River Bridge Update

As expected the cost of the Project has skyrocketed, it has gone from $2.1 billion to $2.7 billion

As before, several interchanges will be configured for the project: Broad Street, Virginia Street, Texas Street, and Water/Canal Streets. Water street will be rebuilt into a new path and Bearegard/Jackson Streets will be destroyed and realigned to meet Water Street at Royal Street. A New 6-lane Cable stay bridge as bypass to the Wallace Tunnel and reconnected to a new 8 lane Bayway (4 lanes each direction)

The biggest news is the $40 per month unlimited pass for vehicles. On average commuters go through the Bayway 22 times per day meaning a cost of just 95 cents to go through the Bayway, which quite frankly, is a steal when you take into account how much time will be saved going through the Bayway when it is complete
