Well I've got sorta good news and bad news. With the economy what it is right now (not to mention winter is here) construction jobs are way down if you can even find one, mill jobs will be almost impossible to get since the mills have been shutting down for the last couple of weeks due to reduced lumber prices and laying people off or severly cutting hours.
You might find railroad work but it's a sought after job so I'd sew one up before coming here if that's what you want to do.
Heavy equipment jobs can be found but again, with the drop in construction are slim. I'm hearing people who work for the major construction companies here (knife river etc) saying they wonder if the companies will be open next year or if they'll have a job.
There are some service area jobs that might tide you over until such time as you find the job you want, I'd look at Northwest Montana Daily Inter Lake > Front or go to mt.gov and look at the flathead county job service.

The Flathead has become a hot spot and growth has been crazy as the locals are catering to out-of-state people with money. Construction and gravel people, here, are looking to change laws to keep construction jobs open instead of leaving to get work elsewhere. It you are tired of people not respecting the natural beauty of beautiful country-side, this isn't the place for you.

Some vocal people want a gravel pit in every neighborhood and tell the public they need one in their back yard to keep the hauling costs down. They have built houses that haven't even been sold yet and sit empty. "Property rights" are the 'buzz words' of the day, here, and they don't mean your property rights.

It's a shame, too, because this is absolutely beautiful country!

I've got to agree with you there... Spoklie just opened a gravel pit right across from Badrock fire, no one here knew it was coming just one day "poof" it was there.

Yes, isn't it just wonderful the way the Planning Department notifies the public? Right across the road from that beautiful ranch, I've heard.
