If your purpose is to survive a SHTF scenario then you need to get away from people. Why would you want to live near a big town where most of the people are armed and know how to shoot well, but are not prepared for a SHTF scenario? Not to mention a lot of folks in poverty who are also armed and won't think twice about taking from you when their kids are starving.

If home price is low enough then a cash home buy would be best. But it'd have to be tiny & thus land would be small. Thx again for all these replies coming.
But I still think east of Divide (tho NOT true Redoubt turf) is far cheaper land, etc. More for your $. So, search continues & even if just moving to a home there -- let alone total self-suffiency at this time -- it'd still be far better than those still stuck outside Patriot turf (which is turf only of; MT, ID, WY, & eastern OR & eastern WA states).
Keep this thread going w/ all this ideas as someone too may benefit from it somehow.
