Interesting piece of legislation being proposed by Marois and the separatists, we are in for 4 years whether you like it or not...

Why not pass a law keeping the PQ in power forever

What. That's not how a Westminster style parliament works! You can't just do that. I'm sure there's plenty of other political parties in a hundred other jurisdictions across the commonwealth over the last two hundred years who'd love to have forced their opponents to give them a defacto majority government even though they barely squeaked out a minority, but one cannot do that because it flies in the face of centuries of democratic tradition and is so outrageous no one else has probably ever had the chutzpah and lack of respect for parliament to contemplate such a thing. The press should gut them for their insolence, and the people should be very concerned about the precedent this sort of thing sets.

Normally i'd think this proposed piece of legislation to be so absurd as to be laughed at, but Its Quebec,And its the PQ, they've been doing pretty much whatever they want for a long time.
Whose to oppose them on this one? They are now fully drunk with power and they're slobbering all over the bar. Whats next ?Unilateral declaration of independence?

Uh, you do know that the same legislation exists in most provinces and European countries? The goal is to have elections at fixed dates, so that the election date does not become an electoral tool in the hands of the government. The elections are held at pre-determined 4-year intervals, except in the case when the government is subject to a vote of non-confidence.

Please stop listening to CJAD, who tend to see conspiracies everywhere when they hear the name Marois..

Next step they burn the reichstag and blame the liberals lol

I believe those fixed election dates were mentionned during the campaign, not sure if the federalist partys are even against it

Marois is so smart. Why didn't Joe Clark, Kim Campbell, John Turner and Paul Martin think of that; they could've been in power for a guaranteed four years if they tabled a legislation like that :P

I guess only BB and i see the implications of making your own laws/legislation on the fly, kinda sets a precedent to do just about anything you want.
A complete potential change of government operating procedures just by Mrs Marois' suggestion is just a tempest in a teapot AJ?

More rope Mrs Marois?

jambo, did you read my post above? MOST canadian provinces have already adopted elections at fixed dates. This isn't some conspiracy so that she can stay in power.

*sigh*

Ya dont have to sigh, i must have missed the change in legislation memo about non confidence votes being suspended, very convenient for Marois.looks like Quebec is stuck with her for the next 4 years.
Kinda a double edged sword as no matter how incompetent she becomes theres no way out and when she does get out she wont be back for 4 years..
