Montreal long attracted the genetic elite of every Quebec village, as rural beauties bused into the big city to share the magical force of their charms and glamour. The percentage of head-turning, jaw-dropping Gino Vanellis and Mitsous walking around the Golden Square Mile, West Island, Anjou and St. Leonard has since dipped from let's say 17% to say 9%. - That is because the demographic weight of rural Québécois towards MTL is constantly shrinking and there is less youth coming from rural Québec because a large proportion of rural Québec has already migrated towards MTL; and of course those migrants from overseas (excluding France) have no fashion taste and cannot compensate for it.
<- a typical high fashion Québécoise who spends her time with manicure instead of eating chips

Then comes the anglo consensus narrative asserting that the French Quebec majority that runs things here is incompetent and corrupt and can do nothing right, from the hockey team to the economy. - Yes

It's obvious but people avoid acknowledging it: the weather here is highly wrong. Frosty cold inhabits your toes, fingers, ear lobes and everywhere else from October to May. Avoid going outside during those times.
- Is it any different anywhere else in North North East America? Out of all places in NNEA, MTL is the best, the underground city allows for shopping in bikini at -20° outside. You can do anything you want in the underground city with no interference of the weather. The largest in the world! If this isn't luxury, then I don't know what is.

Montrealers have all moved to the suburbs. Suburbanites were once a little ashamed to admit their provenance. - Indeed, in the past being off-island was equal to being offline, outdated, uncool and outside the party. Off-island was like being from Chicoutimi. Things have changed. It's become more socially acceptable to be off-island.

Furthermore, a big revolution has taken place: in the past, people went into the suburbs because real estate prices were too high on the island, of course they still are and even more than ever before and will only increase, but now people escape from the island because they want the suburbs for the benefits of the suburbs.
A growing numbers feels alienated by the city, by the Muslims, by the Anglos, by the Liberals.
For them MTL has become the place of moral decay. In many aspects, it has. A city with no other values than a restaurant scene, concerts, drugs and neverending neoliberal business working ethics.

Montrealers talk too much about restaurants. - Yes, true

Montreal is to New York City what Chicoutimi is to Montreal. We think we're in the game but we're not. Look at a map. - Huh? MTL is 16x bigger than Saguenay; NYC is 5,5x bigger than MTL. That comparison is unfavorable. Also how many night clubs do you want to have to choose from to be happy? 50? 500? 5000? How many restaurants do you want to have to choose from to be happy? 700? 7000? 17000? How many universities do you want to have to choose from to be happy? 4? 14? 24? How many festivals need to be held to feel amazing? 18? 80? 380? Once an urban area exceeds seven million inhabitants, it exceeds the mark of choices a human being can make during his life time; that means that the supply may be great but it also means that the supply is only limitedly enjoyable. NYC is over this mark, but MTL is not that far away form this mark.
There is more to experience in NYC, but that does not mean that you'll experience more in a year because even if a book has 15257269 pages a human being will only be able to read about 45374 pages within a year.

Montreal doesn't hate Toronto anymore. - Because there is Hillary Clinton and emotions are not endless.

Montreal dresses no better than any other place. - My life motto is: Never go out without a bow.

Hockey? At least half of Montrealers couldn't name one player on the Canadiens. Mount Royal Park? Many Montrealers spend their entire lives without going there once. - LOL Yes. Actually, I'm glad and proud that many can't name a single hockey player. I can't either. That's phantastic. We don't need to support mass commercialized sports.

Montreal used to be more exciting. Bike paths are in, underage drinking is out, bike helmets (shudder!) are in, smoking is out. - I'll punish everyone who dares to smoke and does not translate their advertisement. Globalization is standardizing cities and making them more like models of a generic role model city. Globaloization is making cities more similar to each other and diminishes individual traits. Every metropolis will look like it has come frome the same manufacturing factory.

Sounds like an article made by an ex-MTLer now living in Toronto who is miserable with their lives and bashes MTL.

Why do they feel alienated by Muslims?
