In recent months more than 500 Mon County miners were laid off due to the Administration's war on coal and working families in the mines, but Murray Energy recently called back 440 of those workers with hopes that production will be fully restored soon.

Just because Murray says it's due to "the Administration's" war on coal doesn't make it so. You could call it natural gas' war on coal, if you're into using silly titles. It doesn't change the fact that there are choices other than coal in terms of energy sources, and that too many WV families rely exclusively on an industry that is subject to layoffs and job terminations as their sole source of income.

There is no doubt that, regardless of one's view of "climate change" (my own opinion is that man with smokestacks has as much chance to change the climate of the world as they do of making it flat), there is no question that the Government's current policies are forcing tens of thousands of people out of work and raising electric bills, including those of the poorest among us, in a major way. This isn't a place for any political debate, but we simply can't ignore the effects of the policies on our people.

Every part of our state has suffered mightily because of these policies. We're more fortunate than most here in that our mines still are largely operational, but we've been hurt too. I have a hunch all stake holders... the unions, companies, and affected communities, would agree that the policies constitute a War on Coal. That said, there is no doubt that competition from natural gas has made it easier to push those policies into effect, but natural gas for electric generation is far more costly and employs far fewer people.

You said this wasn't the place for discussing politics, but you started a thread with the phrase "due to the Administration's war on coal."

I can't make this any plainer: If you post politics in the WV forum that is not DIRECTLY related to current news in WV, you can expect infractions to follow.
