My husband and I are professionals moving to Morgantown in August, and we are looking for an apartment close to the Evansdale campus or PRT station. We have lived successfully with only one car, and my husband would like to be within walking distance of the northside of the evansdale campus, or alternatively the PRT transit system anywhere else.

Additionally, we are in our 30's and want to avoid picking an apartment building with students/parties. I have read that there are some occasional problems with vandalism from out of town students after football games or other sporting events.

Any advice?

Morgantown is booming and has an increasing number of rental
opportunities. As professionals not directly connected to The
University, I think your best bet for a rental located near the
PRT would be near the downtown area which has the Walnut
Street station. You could also rent a place in South Park and
walk across the bridge to get to the station.

Appartments near the PRT in other areas are mostly reserved
for those connected with WVU or the various Health Sciences
facilities. Of course, mass transit in Morgantown is very well
developed and highly utilized. It is also inexpensive. You can
take a city bus from virtually anywhere in town that will drop
you off at a PRT station from which you can get anywhere on
campus. These busses also stop at many campus locations as
well as other places in and near the city. Check out the
Mountain Line Transit System for information. Personally, I'd
suggest living near the bus system rather than trying to locate
right by the PRT. That gives you a lot more options.

In addition, there are parking facilities located at the Medical
Center PRT Station and one located near the Walnut Street
Station. They are also building new parking facilities near the
Beechurst station.

Morgantown is also working hard to become even more friendly
to walkers and bikers, and has trails that cover much of the
city and the area. Bikes can be transported free on city busses
(they have racks for the purpose on front of the busses).

Welcome to Morgantown, one of America's most livable and
prosperous cities.

If I were you I would rent part of a house. The apartments in Morgantown are Meh. Evansdale is a quiet neighborhood.

That's probably good advice. Public transportation in
Morgantown is good enough that you can get around
pretty well without a car from just about anywhere.
Evansdale is a nice community.

All of the landlords in Morgantown are collusion-loving opportunists that exploit the hell out of everyone.

Do what I did. Buy a nice, used mobile home and pay cheap lot rent. The local bus line has a stop at my MHP's mailbox row. Goes straight to the Evansdale PRT. If you stay for 2 years, you'll have already returned the entire investment. Not including what you would make on resale. I figure in the 7 years I've been here, I've saved about $25,000 or so versus renting an apartment. ($800 rent vs. $300 lot rent) The prices in Morgantown on campus are RIDICULOUS.

That's good advice too if you don't mind mobile home living. In fact, I just happen to have one for sale there on a lot that rents for $250 per month including water and garbage. If you're interested, PM me.
