It doesn't happen, because there are two options - tell the person to shut up (get the management if necessary) or move my seat.

These days you get beat or killed just for shushing people in the theaters though; it makes you nervous to say stuff.

I remember this one dude got beat up by a group of immature kids because they were talking and when he told them to quiet down; they just went off on him and used all types of derogatory terms toward his girl.

This happened to me yesterday.

The King's Speech just now came into town and it being a Saturday I knew it would be crowded (usually I try to go to mid-week matinees.)

This couple next to me did not talk incessantly, but when they did, they just spoke naturally instead of whispering. It was as if they considered themselves to be sitting in their living room watching TV.

Then, during a particularly emotional scene, the woman seated in front of me had her cell phone go off--TWICE.

I've shushed people before, and I've moved, but yesterday I just kind of passively sat there because the it wasn't all that bad. But I did think to myself that I would not be rushing out to another Saturday afternoon movie any time soon.
Especially when you have to sit through 20 minutes of trailers before the film even begins.

my husband an i saw dark knight in the theater, and this group of 14 year olds talked the whole time. they did talk about the movie, but you could tell that they only went because their boyfriends asked them to go. they knew nothing about batman or joker or heath ledger...and needed to have everything explained to them...

watchmen was rated "R" for a reason...but people still brought their small children to see it, and they talked and whined the whole 2.5 hours...

funny though...we saw the first transformers about 6 times...and by the 5th time we talked through the whole movie, and the 6th time...i was talking about getting the oil changed in the car, what we would eat for dinner......

we went for the noon shows the last 4 times, so there was nobody in the theater on tuesdays or wednesdays at 12 or 12:30...
