When was the first time (movie) that you noticed the "good guys running in slo-motion away from the exploding fireball, leaping to safety"... HAS THIS BEEN DONE TOO MUCH. Jumping off the dock, the parking deck, bla bla bla...either alone or with his buddy cop, or crime partner. They cant seem to get enough of writing this in screenplays for 20+ yrs. now.
Personally; I believe it was Sly Stallone in one of his flicks from the ealy 80s, maybe the "Assassin" thing with Sharon Stone ? hires him to kill abusive boyfriend? Eric Roberts? Anyways, I seem to see this scene in every "Action" flick since that time. How bout you guys?
I was sincerely hoping it was ONLY A PASSING FAD, however every single macho guy has done this to death,

Alot of van Damme older films from the 80'/90's remind me of what you describe but yea alot of action movies are like this but I like this for a good action movie, take the new die hard 4 loved it but not much was believable and there was a lot of what you mentioned especially with the helicopter and the car scene and the jet scene. If you havent seen the movie you wont have a clue what im talkin about.
I think they do tend to over do it. The last movie I saw this in was The Marine, and when I saw it, I pretty much expected that is what was going to happen, and of course that person always seems to live through it.
The last "action flick" I remember enjoying was probably The Rundown, with the Rock. Very fun movie. It's still campy in parts -- but it knows it's campy and runs with it.
I still haven't seen the last Die Hard flick. How was it?
Sam Peckinpah is well known for using slow motion in scenes. Not necessarily with the "good guys" but with anything that had a lot of action and/or violence involved. His 1969 movie "The Wild Bunch" is a good example.
In my junior and senior year of high school we used to joke about how something played out "like a bad Sam Peckinpah movie"--I graduated in 1971.
