Does anybody know why The Breakfast Club was shown on Sunday, July 20 at 2pm all across the US?
It's not the anniversary yet (released in Feb '85) and it's not the anniversary of John Hughes' death until August.

A network probably had the rights to the movie and decided to air it on Sunday afternoon?

OP left out the part that it was being shown in theaters across the US.

It's just a Regal Theaters classic movie series. Classic Film Series - Regal Cinemas | Regal Cinemas

Not a single movie on their list demands to be seen on the big screen.

I'm curious to see how well attended these are. Why would someone pay movie ticket prices to watch a movie they can stream on Netflix? The obvious answer would be for the big screen experience, but not a single movie on their list really has anything added to it by being seen on the big screen.

Well, only 2 of the 6 can be streamed on Netflix. And I guess people do pay to see them, because they continue to offer them. I might consider seeing a couple (matinee) for a bit of nostalgia.
