Does anyone remember An American Christmas Carol? It was a 1979 made-for-TV movie starring Henry Winkler, back when he was best known as "The Fonz", as a Scrooge-like character in a Depression-Era New England town. I thought Winkler did a good job in the part. Interestingly, most of the rest of the cast had Canadian accents! INSP showed it Sunday night.

Yes, I saw that in '79, but I've never really been a Winkler fan. If I'm going to watch A Christmas Carol, it will have to be the Alastair Sim version from 1951.

Over in the TV forum there's a thread about Christmas shows on TV, including movies. I'll repeat what I said there--I don't want to miss It's a Wonderful Life, and A Christmas Story. We already have A Wonderful Life on DVD, and I'll probably just buy the other one.

Some Holidays I also watch our DVD of A Christmas Without Snow, a TV movie from around 1980. Not because it is particularly outstanding, but because a relative of mine is in it! It is a nice little touching Holiday movie, just not a super-classic.

Here's an unusual Christmas movie which I actually find quite moving: Three Godfathers, by John Ford, with the Duke.

How about It Happened One Christmas, a TV remake of It's a Wonderful Life?

March of the wooden soldiers was always my favorite.

Also Christmas vacation-A Griswold house gathering is always guaranteed fun-It's the gift that keeps giving year after year.

It may not count as a movie in length, but the CW showed Mister Magoo's Christmas Carol last night. It seems for every minute of the program, they showed a minute of advertisements.
I remember seeing this in elementary school back in the 1970s and haven't seen it on TV in over 20 years. Now that I am an adult, I can finally appreciate it as art.

We were just talking about A christmas carol at home...

Last year our child had to read it, and then they saw the movie in class, and went to see a play of it. And we talked about all the different versions of it that were out there:
A Muppet christmas carol (really cute)
Scrooged (Bill Murray), etc.

White christmas
Miracle on 34th street
The christmas story
are my faves. Never miss the first one.
