This time, an adorable beagle puppy. It's briefly referenced in the TV trailer for John Wick, but stay away from the online one.

What's up with this trend in both movies and TV? As I've mentioned before, the blood and gore directed to humans is bad enough, but writers appear to be running out of ideas. I was surfing a few months ago, and came across a story, then quickly got the opposite of heaven out of there when I saw someone put a kitten in a microwave. Then, I watched what had been a pretty interesting Lifetime movie with Michael Keaton, when he dropped his victim's cat off a roof (as this one turned out, the cat survived).

I admit I'm a big wuss about animals, and can't grab the remote fast enough when I happen upon an airing of Old Yeller, but I find this inclination to view abuse of animals very troubling.

Needless to say, I won't be seeing John Wick.

Was the puppy really hurt? If so, I'd scream and holler. If not ... it's a movie.

Coppola tells a story about The Godfather. Dozens of human beings die quite horrific deaths in that movie. But you know what he got the most angry letters about? The horse. Something is a little messed up about that.

But if it makes you feel any better, I tend to avoid Keanu Reaves movies anyway.

Yeesh, Mark. Point missed. I'm sure "no animals were harmed in the filming of this movie." (And, yes, I know it's a movie). Also, notice that I did say that I had said before that violence towards humans in films/TV is also a turn-off.

This trend should be disturbing to everyone.

I got your point. I just think you're making a mountain out of a mole hill when there are real mountains to worry about.

I also said I was a wuss in these matters.

I just think violence in general is excessive and gratuitous. No need to differentiate human or animal.

Well if you agree that there's no need to differentiate, then why did you?
