Michael Douglas was the co-lead on a show called The Streets of San Francisco that ran from 1972-77.
After Coma (1978) and The China Syndrome (1979), he became a big deal. Films like Romancing the Stone, Fatal Attraction, Wall Street and Falling Down were hits. He had a good run.
I agree, he was big in the '80s and '90s for box office draw. IMO, he transitioned from acting to other projects better than most. I'm much more impressed by him than his father.
I liked him in "The Game", "A Perfect Murder", and "Traffic". He also had a good talk show. He had John Lennon on for an entire week! Oh, wait. Never mind.
He was also a big producer of many films, including One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Romancing the Stone, Starman, Flatliners, The China Syndrome, and others.
Lead actor status. I vaguely remember Michael Douglas and Harrison Ford in competition for the same kind of roles throughout the 80s and the first half of the 90s. Hard-boiled cop movies, adult thrillers, political dramas, exotic action adventures, comedies, sappy romance.
