Hi,

I am interested in movies depicting American Civil War. The more historically accurate, the better.

Thank you in advance.

Yes! I love this movie. My 8th grade history teacher took us to see it when it came out in theaters.

Also, read Red Badge of Courage.

If you want a movie about the actual battles of the war, I recommend Gettysburg.

For a Civil War-era movie, I recommend Lincoln or Cold Mountain.

The John Wayne movie The Horse Soldiers is loosely based upon Colonel Grierson's Raid. He became the post war commander of the 10th Cavalry Buffalo Soldiers.

The Jayhawkers was loosely based upon John Brown in the Kansas Missouri Border War.

Spielberg's Lincoln.

Gods and Generals serves as a prequel to Gettysburg focusing on Confederate General Stonewall Jackson.

made after Gettysburg (The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara) using much of the same cast as was used in Gettysburg. Gods and Generals was written by Michael Shaara's son Jeffrey who also completed the trilogy with The Last Full Measure which never made it into production by Ted Turner because of the big loss that resulted from G&G.

a pretty cool video from Lucky Willbury made for G&G...

The Red Badge of Courage. 1951 screenplay based on Stephen Crane's book
Ride with the Devil. 1999 film about the Bushwhackers - Southern Sympathizers in the Missouri- Kansas border War.
The General. 1926 Buster Keaton flick about the great Train Hijacking during the Civil War. If you're an old movie buff, this is a must see. Very entertaining.

Thank you, I will watch Gettysburg in two days because is rather long. There is another one that nobody here mentioned, Ironclads 1991, being a fan of naval warfare and especially of 19th century I guess I would enjoy it.

I've not seen that one. Will have to check it out. Also, there is one about the Hunley out, now. That should be interesting.
