When this film was released and shown in theaters back in 1980, was it mainly for pedophiles or did a lot of regular people see it as well?

Pedophiles are interested in pre-pubescent children, not the boy and girl in this movie who were 15 or 16 years old.

Anyway, it was a very popular movie for people of all sorts.

What's the real motive for your question?

It was showing on a cable channel this evening. I tuned in for a few minutes, remembering there was controversy regarding the film many years ago but not remembering precisely why, though after watching a few minutes of it I could see why, especially given that Brooke Shields was 14 at the time (10 Things You Might Not Know About). The version I saw fortunately had Brooke's top blurred out, but I assume the theatrical version did not.

BTW, why did you ask what my motive was for asking?

Wasn't the movie targeted to teens? So it was a movie about teen love/romance/sex and it was market to.....wait for it.....teens? I suppose there could have been pervs watching it too but it was definitely not pedophilic material as they were BOTH postpubescent (regardless of Brooke's actual age). Anyway, it was horrible and cheesy and not really of any value so, best forgotten - even the theme song was terrible.

Maybe the movie was made for those who watched it...

You should be asking that question about Pretty Baby. What a creep fest of a movie.

First, the way your question is worded is as offensive as "How many times a week do you beat your wife?" How about "Was Sound of Music mainly for neo-NAZIs or did a lot of regular people see it as well?" "Was Heartbreak Ridge mainly for war-mongers or did a lot of regular people see it as well?" "Was Deliverance mainly for pig-f****** or did a lot of regular people see it as well?"

To answer your question, the movie was aimed at a general audience. I don't recall any problem with pedophiles, whereas the G rated film audiences had to be watched by ushers regularly.

It was one of the top 10 films (ticket sales) that year. So I would say it had pretty broad appeal.
