For me it was the movie ''The Last Temptation of Christ'' where Satan tempted Christ to come off the Cross as he was dying and telling him that God didn't want the Crucifixion to take place and for him to marry Mary Magdaline and have children and a family in an earthly paradise if Jesus accepted.

Lots of protests at the movie theaters here in the USA and around the world when it came out in 1988.

Cannibal Hollocaust. Banned in a bunch of countries. French director went to jail because they thought he filmed a snuff film.
20 year old film is still pretty edgy and disturbing today.

Brokeback Mountain. I don't think it was the controversy in the movie, just the controversy that it caused. I remember being very mad at JG character because he was kind of a jerk.

I have also heard the movie "Feed" is pretty crazy but haven't had the chance to see it. Stars my favorite actor Mr Alex O'loughlin!

Anything by Michael Moore + a couple of others stand out: "The girl in the cafe'"; "The boy in the stripped pajamas". Last two highly recommended, but only if you can tolerate "Truth". . . .
