Daytime & nightime soaps are becoming soft porn. Some talk shows are so incredibly vulgar. Now they want to rate movies "R" if someone's smoking! OK to have sex, do drugs, drink....not to mention the violence. Why not censor TV a little more strictly instead of movies?

Any thoughts?

Well, I don't like the idea of censoring TV. The best and most effective censor is the parent. We don't need the government behaving as our nannies. There are lots of shows I won't let my kids watch. There are several I won't watch. But I don't need the government to do that for me.

And yes, and R-rating for smoking is silly.

I don't mind the R rating. I'm not big on censorship either but I'll bet my money it doesn't go through b'c the big movie companies want to make $$$$ - and a big chunk of that is from kids under 18. Or, the movie-makers will cut cigarettes to a minimum in which case, less people smoking - yipee!

I don't get it...R for smoking?? Just stupid!
What gets me is when I am watching a family show with my son and some vulgar commercial comes on...what the heck is that?

I don't know if sunshinegirl and I saw the same clip but there was a study done and 52% of people who started smoking said they were influenced by movies. I personally just don't like smoking so wouldn't be influenced by hollywood but statistics show, many are influenced.
