Bands/Artists People Either Love or Hate:

The purpose of this thread is to list bands and musicians you perceive other people to have only a love or hate relationship with. It is not for us to indicate who we like or hate here, just performers where the reaction is one extreme or the other.

I'll start it off: The Beatles

Bob Dylan

I personally dont care much for him, he has a very grating and annoying vocal delivery. I do like alot of his songs but they are so much better when covered by other artists.

I think this is all very subjective. Personally, I can't think of any artist that would be equally hated or loved. The Beatles in this case, is the worst example as I'm pretty sure I've never met a single person who would hate them. Just like Elvis, Dylan or Sinatra, most people will tell you that they'd probably appreciate it more if they lived during their era.

Ironically, I've met plenty Beatle-haters. While I'm a fan of both the Beatles members and their music, that doesn't mean I 'love' every song, but I don't understand the hate! Same for Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel, who I feel represent American 'blue-collar' rock very well.

A rare Springsteen song comes over our PA grid at at work, and one of my classic rock fan customers groans, "Oh man, not another song about New Jersey!!". Yet they like Yes, Lovin' Spoonful, Boston, Bad Co. you name it.

U2...Cue gagging sound. I guess you can tell which side I'm on for them, lol. I feel the same about Springsteen as well...

Phish would be a strong candidate. Plenty of fans who would gladly hear every note they played all year, and then tons of people who can't imagine enjoying their music if you're not completely stoned.

I would agree with U2, and probably Queen. Probably most bands with a highly idiosyncratic lead singer.

I suppose that if everybody hates them, then everybody loves or hates them. H -> (L v H). The last three of those, at least.

One of the most polarizing bands ever - KISS.
I was in high school when they became popular in the mid 70s, even then many kids hated them.
