Rock and Roll Hall of Fame deals with all genres of music, not just Rock. Eric B and Rakim are legends in their genre. They are definitely deserving of this.
The big question is which Guns N Roses lineup plays that show... Will Axl check his ego to allow the old members to perform together...

I agree that EB&R are legends in thier genre and are good at what they do but it's called the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. EB&R are not rock and roll artists. There have been many other true rock bands that have been passed up, but now they are nomionating and inducting rappers? Maybe if this was called the Popular Music Hall of Fame maybe. But inducting rappers, disco and R+B acts is stretching it a bit. The RNRHOF comittee are just in this for the money and know squat about Rock n Roll.
I love Eric B & Rakim, but they are not rock artists! Put them in a rap hall of fame, especially when there's a glut of deserving rock artists that get snubbed year after year. Here's just a partial list:
Deep Purple
Ronnie James Dio
ELP
Jethro Tull
King Crimson
The Moody Blues
Rush (on his show, Stephen Colbert even asked the band if they thought it was B.S. that they haven't been inducted yet)
Yes
Seeing how much the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominating committee seems to hate progressive rock and metal bands, it's a miracle that Genesis and Metallica got it.
Its called the Rock and Roll hall of fame in name only. Its a place where legends of MUSIC, ALL TYPES OF MUSIC can be enshrined for their efforts in MUSIC. This is why you also have non musicians like Clive Davis also enshrined.
Go to their website and check all the inductees, many of them you've probably never heard of, especially the ones from the 50s and 60s. I cant think of anyone more deserving than Stevie Ray Vaughn though. Eric B and Rakim (if they get in, which they probably wont this year) would be only the third Hip Hop group enshrined. Run DMC and Grandmaster Flash are the others. Beasties should eventually get in as well.

GnR have no business being in the RnR HOF if a pile of other bands aren't in there. However, I don't think it has nearly as much to do with influence on music as it does with perceptions of popularity. Good grief, Purple's been eligible for almost 20 years.
