A) Only be able to listen to the song "Lay Down Sally" by Eric Clapton for a full week or

B) Only be able to listen to songs released between 1974-1998 for a whole year (excluding Lay Down Sally)? The years 1974 and 1998 are included, as are all years in between, and it goes by date of first worldwide release.
Cover versions are okay as long as the cover was released from 1974-1998; for instance, "Love Hurts" by the Everly Brothers was released in 1960, so it's out, but "Love Hurts" by Nazareth came out in 1975 so it's in. This wouldn't include instrumental stuff, etc, only songs you were listening to consciously. Same applies to the first scenario.

C) you get to pick another year range, but it's a year and a half, not a year like in (B) and it can be a maximum of a 25-year range (e.g. songs from 1965-1989, songs from 1959-1983, songs from 1982-2006, etc, and you must specify the year range) Again, no "Lay Down Sally"

Personally, I'd take the year with only 1974-1998 songs. "Lay Down Sally" is my least favorite song ever that is pre-2010, and the full 25 year period of 1974-1998 is so rich and full of variety, I'd honestly call it one of the best 25 year periods in music ever. I'd say 75% of the music I listen to is '74-98 anyway. You get the majority of '70s music, all of the '80s music, and a majority of the '90s music. Not saying that '74-98 was an unpolluted period of all good music, but any year (let alone 25) will have stinkers. I considered option C, so I could have the 1968-1973 period, but then I'd have to make it 1968-1993, cutting out the '90s.

Default 1968-1973

Interesting thread-I love it!

Certain eras I'm REALLY plugged into listening-and collecting. My prime years would be 1964 to 1974 because of the seismic change in rock music. I went bonkers on collecting music in that decade! I've always thought that your high school years up to age 25 or so is one's favorite time for tunes.

I wasn't a fan of disco music so by 1975 I scaled back a bit on collecting but between 1970 to 1974 I generally bought 2 new releases a week, every week for 5 years. By 1978 I was buying around 45 to 50. And by 2000 probably 25 releases in a years time. Now '64 to '68? Heh, money was burning a hole in my pocket in those days. But back then, I learned how to warmonger the discount stores who sold cut out 45's and lp's-stores like Duckwall's, Woolworth's, K-Mart, Woolco, Gibsons, etc., etc.

I chose B.

A bit off topic, but in a similar vein.

You know how by Christmas, you are sick of the Christmas songs, but then by the time T'giving rolls around you are looking forward to them again.

So I was thinking Classic rock radio ought to be like that.

Like bands that begin with A&B exclusively through the month of Jan and not to be played at all from Feb-Dec.

But you'd get fuller catalogues and not just the few hits that they wear out all the time.

Maybe choice C from about 1962 to about 1987? Actually it is hard because I don't like the 80s much at all and did like some 90s music. However, I do like the 60s/70s.
