They left out the smell of a new vinyl record when you pull it out of the jacket before it even hits the needle.

I keep wondering if I'm in a minority of audiophiles that actually doesn't like the sound of vinyl and prefers the sound of CD's. To my ears, vinyl sounds distorted and shaky.

Much as I like the convenience of other formats, there's just something about that warm hum from the stylus. The clicks and pops on my Sinatra albums are as soothing as a fireside crackle.

Could be what you play your vinyls on? I know some audiophiles who drop mega $$$ for the absolute best turntable system you can get. And I'll say records (that are in good shape) played on a higher end set up are more pleasing to my ear than CDs.

Of course, I don't have a higher end turntable system - mine was in the $300 range, but I still love the way the music sounds on the records I play. To me, it just seems like the music fills the room and sounds more alive than on CDs. I remember listening to my Bruce Springsteen vinyl one night and just feeling as if he was right in my living room playing for me.

I've heard vinyl on high-end systems and it still sounds slightly out of tune and shaky to my ears compared to CD's.
