Otis Redding, backed by the Stax house band.

XTC before Andy Partridge got stage fright.

Of the choices listed, I picked Jimi. In fact, I would specifically go back to the 1967 Monterey Pop festival. Otis, Jimi, the Who.....

Yep. It’s like he was talking to you.

I would love to have seen both Billie Holiday and Maria Callas.

Two very different vocalists, of course. But they both speak straight to your heart, which is the whole point.

Callas just amazes me in that she made opera singing so , I dunno, like an intimate conversation.

Others may be more consistent technically but she just tears me up.

Yes, SRV was great. Even with a huge audience the show felt intimate.

He got a few teardrops out of me as well.

From your list, David Bowie.

But I would really liked to have seen The Who and The Rolling Stones back in the early 70s.

I'm not sure I could handle all the high-pitched screaming of a Beatles concert.

Very tough choice between Hendrix and the Beatles.

Coltrane for sure. You know you're going to hear brilliance. Pop/rock can be fairly mixed depending on many factors.

Not on the list: Frank Zappa.

Who would you choose?

I'll pick all of those. However, the number one that I would choose would be her.

Janis Joplin - Summertime

Coltrane would do for now, but Bill Evans, Duke Ellington's band and the Mamas and the Papas are also missed.
