The only French song I really know is 'Belle' by Jack Johnson and that doesn't count because he's American. I still like it though.

She really is something.

Moi Lolita

Everyone's Favorite, with the boots

I like the "manouche" genre, too.

Marche de Manouche

The video below was shot live in Paris, it is French-influenced, but sung in English by American band Beirut.

Nantes

Jacques Brel--there is another one I like better, called the Port of Amsterdam, but it has somewhat risque lyrics.
This one is G-rated--pretty tricky singing, too.

I love French songs!! I have loads of the Putamayo cds in French, and love Edith Piaf, but, lately I've gotten into Matthieu Chedid, aka "M" -- I love him -- he is so quirky, but fun!! (In his videos and in concerts he does have that weird "M" shaped hair, but in "real life" he doesn't.....just a gimmick -- hey, he has a song called that, too "Gimmick!"

Here's a fun U-tube song with him:

YouTube - -M- Qui de nous deux.

I also love French movies -- especially the one with Mathieu Chedid's girlfriend, Audrey Tautou, He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not.

We can share these! Great! Thanks for the thread!

Great video.
My son (he lives in France) turned me on to that "M" guy.
The first time I saw him, I was a bit confounded.
But he grows on you. And yeah, the M thing is just a gimmick--Jack White of the White Stripes does that kind of schtick too.

.
Maurice Chavaliers "Thank Hevean for little girls" and Charles Aznavour "She" which were constantly played on the radio. Oh and some songs we were taught in French lessons in elementary school.
