Do you have any favorite holiday music? If so, please share!
I found this CD (well, actually it was a cassette tape!) twenty years ago when traveling through eastern Europe during Christmas. It went out of print, and for many years all I had was that one tape and I was so paranoid about losing it and losing this gorgeous music, because I simply couldn't find it anywhere else.
Then a few years ago, I found ONE CD on eBay (nothing anywhere else on this earth apparently) for $35 and ordered it IMMEDIATELY.
This year there are more copies out there, so I think anyone interested could get it easily enough. I found four more CDs and ordered them for family members, who are going to be so thrilled to get them. I mean it - this is THE MOST GORGEOUS MUSIC. It's good actually for any time of year since it doesn't sound like "traditional Christmas music." It's great winter "sit by the fire with a cup of tea" music.
It was performed by the Bucharest Madrigal Choir and is totally acapella. It is NOT "typical choral Christmas music" - I can't take much of that. This is very ethereal and absolutely gorgeous. I love going to sleep listening to it - I've never gotten tired of it at all.
Also, any collection of Bach's greatest "hits" always reminds me of traveling through Germany.

I like the traditional Christmas music. When I hear "let it snow;let it snow ;let it snow' anywhere; I at the least start signing it in my mind.guess I am just a American kid in that way.
Fred Waring and his Pennsylvanians, especially the album "Now Is the Caroling Season," recorded in the mid-50s. My grandmother and my mom both had the album, and now I have the CD.
Other favorites:
Vince Guaraldi Trio: A Charlie Brown Christmas
Over The Rhine: The Darkest Night of the Year
Phil Spector: A Christmas Gift for You
Dr. Demento's collections of Christmas novelty songs, like "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" and "Christmas at Ground Zero"
The Nutcracker suite
Anything by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir
I'd be disloyal to my generation if I didn't say I absolutely adore Alvin and the Chipmunks' "The Christmas Song."
I grew up with 'The Vienna Choir Boys' and 'Regensburger Domspatzen 'Christmas Music, the Händel Messiah and the Bach Christmas Oratorio plus Alpine Christmas music. When we came to Canada I got introduced to English Christmas music and one of my favorite ones is 'O Holy Night '
also I love listening to my Advent/Christmas Alpine music and this is my favorite I used to yodel in a little choir
I love christmas tunes, always have but in recent years I've begun to tire of the old staples, and have been seeking out some quality new holiday songs whether they're remakes or originals.
