Heavenly Parents! May Thy Hearts lift this day as Thy children embrace Joy! May All who come to Thee flowing with Love release more Joy unto Thy Own Hearts!
Heavenly Master and Lord! May the Blessings Thee have given so freely be multiplied and fill Thy Heart! May Thy Gift of Love inspire the hearts of All who Love Thee!
Blessed Be the pure of heart for they will see God in All things great and small. Amen
::: heart joyfully singing ... skipping steps
flare embroidered skirt ... twirling with day's
news and events .... a dance for Love! ::::
::: voice happy .... Blessed is this Day!
beg pardon... dips into curtsey ... rises ...
speaks softly ...have had consternation with
this machine Sir MMC or surely Thee would
have message afore now! ...
eyes twinkle and smile plays like an
eager child across lips... do nay know
the conditions or terms that might be
required... do nay care!
in all things of Love and Thy calling Sir,
'twould be this one's honor and pleasure
to serve! if Thee needs anything at all -
from material , emotional, spiritual ...
please allow offering ...
::: heart joins chorus.. songs of praise! ...
grateful songs of Love's Victorious Day!
Doris Day at her best, with a great orchestral arrangement--check out the strings "comping" Doris after the bridge. People may argue forever about whether she was mostly a pop singer, cabaret singer, jazz singer, or movie singer--no matter, she had just one great voice. Darned good looking, too, especially in middle age.
Next, Sarah Vaughan singing "Key Largo." Note--only accompanied by bass and guitar. I think I've posted this one before, but it's worth repeating. One great singer at the top of her game, vocally "letting it all hang out" with no mixing tricks or elaborate instrumental backing. Don't try this at home without a safety net.
Here's another great voice singing a great song. Bandleader and singer Billie Eckstine. "Temptation"--not to be confused with a later song with the same name. Billy Eckstine is not well known today, but was "a force" in the 1940's, having such notables at Sarah Vaughan, Dizzie Gillespie, and Charlie Parker as members of his band during those years.
... sighs happily... dreamy interlude... what a voice for live radio broadcasting!
... this one felt herself in bobby socks and saddle shoes...
laying on braided rug before a RCA radio with girlfriends...
listening to the "forbidden Jazz Station"...
First up is a most unlikely medley performed by Bob Florence--best known for leading a big band--on solo piano. This unlikely improvised medley contains the "Theme from M*A*S*H", "The Shining Sea" (written by jazz singer Peggy Lee), and the lovely ballad "You Are There." A lovely piece. It was recorded in one take at Bob Florence's house.
Next, one of the best recorded versions ever of a fine jazz standard, "How High the Moon." Normally recorded as a fast-paced bop tour-de-force, here it is treated as a brooding ballad. The vocalist is California-born Japanese-American Pat Suzuki, who recorded a couple of jazz albums in the 1950's, but is best known for long-running work on Broadway. This used to be available on a CD, "The Very Best of Pat Suzuki," but it is out of print. The song was used as the theme for the 1987 movie, "Biloxi Blues," from which this clip was taken.
Wrappin' it up is the Charlie Haden Quartet (with Ernie Watts on sax and New Zealander Alan Broadbent on piano) playing the evergreen tune "Haunted Heart." Tagged on at the end is the original Jo Stafford vocal recording of the tune. Interesting contrast.
