Jason and the (Nashville) Scorchers covering Bob Dylan's "Absolutely Sweet Marie." Found this video recently, and have been delighting in it.
I always felt Jason and the Nashville Scorchers were just ahead of their time. They were very popular around Nashville, but the whole alt.country genre hadn't taken off in the early 80s. The classic 'too country for rock radio, too rock for country radio' argument. Their record label suggested they remove the word "Nashville" from their name for just that reason.
The other thing I love is the shots of Lower Broadway in Nashville before it became another sanitized yuppie playground. Yeah, strip clubs, peep shows, smoke-filled bars and tacky, trashy street life are disgusting... but that was the soul of Nashville.
"Who can say when the roads meet
That love might be in your heart
And who can say when the day sleeps
If the night keeps all your heart
Night keeps all your heart"

MSR-San, Enya's song is as beautiful as early morning mist!
Yes, Topaz_Flowers, that is a beautiful song. A morning mist is the perfect way to describe it.
Rain, like other precious elements, metals and other natural resources makes me think of this song by Rush:
The Trees
"There is unrest in the forest
There is trouble with the trees
For the maples want more sunlight
And the oaks ignore their pleas"
"The trouble with the maples
(And they're quite convinced they're right)
They say the oaks are just too lofty
And they grab up all the light
But the oaks can't help their feelings
If they like the way they're made
And they wonder why the maples
Can't be happy in their shade"
One thought provoking Rush song, with lyrics by Neil Peart, deserves another:
Time Stand Still
"I turn my face to the sun Close my eyes Let my defences down All those wounds that I can't get unwound"
"I let my past go too fast No time to pause If I could slow it all down Like some captain, whose ship runs aground I can wait until the tide comes around"

MSR - hoping everyone gets a moment or two longer today for a friend, family member or someone we may not always give the time they deserve. If we're lucky, the same will happen to us too.

Who knew different types of trees sang about unions, equal rights, oppression and a very unique "Noble Law," for trees?

Hey,
You guys a also expanding my world, again this is really a great thread. What a great way to appreciate life but through music. Then listen to a foreign singer or group and go on a virtual vacation in you head.
And please call me Mike, Michael, NJM or new jersey mike but Sir and Mr are just too formal. The respect and intent is appreciated.
I don't think I have shared this yet, Michael Hedges but sadly died around '97 in a car accident.
Thanks, Mr. New Jersey Mike, for expanding my world!
